Personal de enfermería en telesalud

El personal de enfermería interviene en los procesos de cuidado de la salud en conjunto, ante un panorama que evoluciona hacia la telesalud deberán prepararse con las habilidades y competencias necesarias para solventar los nuevos requerimientos de atención. La participación del personal de enfermería en telesalud va desde la tranquilizar a padres primerizos, guiar en las indicaciones médicas, aclarar procedimientos, vigilar los cuidados en casa, monitorear signos de alerta hasta detectar una amenaza a la vida que amerite el envío de una ambulancia.

La American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) ha establecido competencias y estándares de práctica para la enfermería de telesalud y enfermería de cuidados ambulatorios, que incluyen:  experiencia profesional, habilidades interpersonales, conocimientos técnicos, documentación, formación continuada, gestión de recursos, práctica y capacidades administrativas.

El personal de enfermería en telesalud, por atender a un paciente a distancia, debe tener la habilidad de utilizar herramientas de evaluación diagnóstica, protocolos y su propia experiencia clínica para hacer una valoración, guiando a través de un diálogo adecuado, para satisfacer la necesidad de la persona que requiere la atención.

El estudio de Dundas y Casler, en 1998, concluyó que la comunicación efectiva entre enfermero y paciente es el mayor inconveniente, lo cual resulta importante debido a que en la percepción del paciente, la satisfacción está ligada a la sensación de empatía y seguridad de que su problema ha sido comprendido por su interlocutor. La escucha activa y el perfeccionamiento de las habilidades de comunicación permiten efectuar una evaluación precisa del evento, labor fundamental en la enfermería de telesalud.

La tecnología abre la posibilidad de realizar intervenciones a pacientes desde su hogar, reducir la estancia hospitalaria, alcanzar a poblaciones rurales y dar seguimiento a pacientes crónicos sin exponerlos, reduciendo además costos y tiempos de respuesta. Los enfermeros, al formar parte del esquema de salud, deben ampliar su profesionalización en estos conceptos, para asumir funciones de atención en telesalud, con la confianza de ofrecer la calidad y seguridad mientras manipulan las diversas tecnologías de comunicación a su alcance, evitando un traslado o visita innecesaria a un hospital.
